'Imagine' exhibition
January 8th - 13th, 2024
8 Duke Street, St. James’s, SW1Y 6BN
This was a selected show featuring work by Bryanston alumni and alumnae. The selection panel included Xavier Bray (Director of the Wallace Collection) and Anthony Connolly (President of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters). Bryanston has a strong artistic tradition and the exhibition included work by alumni Howard Hodgkin, Lucian Freud and Patrick George.

Open Access Portrait, Life and Print Studios Exhibition

The school’s Open Studio consists of atelier-style sessions at which models for life and portrait painting and drawing plus facilities for printmaking, all with tutorial input on hand, are available for ad-hoc booking by artists. The show comprises work made during 2023 by artists attending those sessions. The Heatherley’s tradition of providing life drawing and painting facilities dates back to its foundation in 1845. It was the first school to admit women to the life room on equal terms with men.

The Green Door Gallery is an independent art gallery in the European Quarter of Brussels. Working with established, internationally recognised artists, as well as emerging and early-career artists who are still forging their artistic identity. The gallery was inaugurated by Her Excellency Helena Nolan, the Ambassador of Ireland to Belgium in March 2019. Since then it has established itself as a hub of creativity, hospitality and artistic expression.

'It’s one thing to present your art honestly to the world, it’s quite another to turn that gaze on yourself. We live in the age of the ‘selfie,’ where reality can be pushed through endless filters until every hint of vulnerability is erased. In this show, all filters are removed as each artist presents an artwork that gives the viewer a glimpse of their authentic self. Is it even possible to capture a sense of self when sudden revelation can change everything in a heartbeat?'
